Database displaying the human chromosome 21 catalog and expression patterns for the corresponding mouse orthologs
http://chr21.molgen.mpg.de/hsa21/
Gene catalog, related information, and experimental data are presented from left to right

Column 1: HSA21 gene catalog with access to genomic information and gene name alias, via links to Genbank and to MPIMG chr.21 databases. Gene symbols are according to the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee and refer to the human genes.

Column 2: Gene description from Genbank integrating gene ontology classification (1), protein motifs identified with the SMART program (2) and general information taken from the literature.

Column 3: Orthology relationships between HSA21 proteins and those of C. elegans (C), D. melanogaster (D) or S. Cerevisiae (Y) with links to the multiple alignments.

Column 4: Known human monogenic disease loci and published mouse mutants. Links to Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) and to bibliographic references.

Column 5: Shows in light blue the MMU16 duplicated chromosomal segment in Ts65Dn mouse model for Down syndrome.

Column 6: Synteny between HSA21 and mouse chromosomal regions MMU16 (dark blue), MMU17 (green), MMU10 (red) and MMU13 (orange).

Column 7: Mouse orthologs. Indicates available full-length cDNAs (Genbank link in green), clones used as riboprobes (links to ESTs at RZPD in red; links to internal probes cloned by RT-PCR in blue). The mention "no clone available" refers to mouse sequence for which no clone was publicly available (Link to the source Genbank entry).

Column 8:In silico EST mining displaying the electronic qualitative expression profile obtained for each mouse gene and classified by tissue type (links to the source EMBL entries).

Column 9: RT-PCR data on whole mouse brain at E15.5 and P2 stages carried out for selected genes.

Columns 10 & 11: Whole mount ISH showing data annotations and images (full size images are viewed by clicking on the thumbnails). Wh_emb: whole embryo; ex: extra-embryonic component; se: surface ectoderm; ba: branchial apparatus; hm: head mesenchyme; tm: trunk mesenchyme; so: somites; PSM: presomitic mesoderm; tb: tail bud; blv: blood vessels; he: heart; br: brain; sc: spinal cord; PNS: peripheral nervous system; us: urogenital system.

Columns 12 & 13: Brain sections ISH showing data annotations and images (full size images are viewed by clicking on the thumbnails). CBL: cerebellum; CHP: choroid plexus; CTX: cerebral cortex; dDE: dorsal diencephalon; v/d MS: ventral/dorsal mesencephale; HIP: hippocampal formation; MNG: meninges; OB: olfactory bulb; P/M: pons/medulla/anterior spinal cord; S/VZ: ventricular/subventricular zone; SEP: septal formation; v/d DE: ventral/dorsal diencephalon; vFB: ventral forebrain.
